Skye Photo Tours workshops will take advantage of both sunrise and sunset locations, the Isle of Skye is a big Island and it takes longer to get to some locations than you may think, therefore we will choose our locations to compliment the weather and tide times, that will offer the most dramatic and varied compositions.
We will of course take in the most spectacular locations around Skye, the Cuillin Hills from various different locations, the Trotternish peninsula, the Quiraing, the Old Man of Storr, Talisker Bay, Elgol and of course some other less known locations but no less spectacular.

What you will definitely need
Digital SLR or Mirrorless Camera, however some Bridge cameras may be suitable, please contact me for details.
Spare batteries and charger
Tripod (if you have one, if not, I do have some spare tripods but please let me know when booking if you require one, as numbers are limited)
Walking shoes/boots (and wellingtons if you have them)
Laptop with post processing software
Filters, Neutral Density Graduated (2 and 3 stop), Neutral Density (6 and 10 stop) and a Circular Polariser. If you do not wish to invest in a filter system at this stage then you will have an opportunity to use some filters during the workshop. (If you would like any advice prior to the course I will be happy to help).
Hot shoe bubble level (assuming you do not have a built in horizon level indicator in camera).
Remote release cable or IR trigger.
The workshop will start on the evening of your arrival day, we will do introductions and if you are comfortable give your fellow participants a summary of your photography background and what you would like to achieve from the workshop. We will then go through some basic principles of photography, then have an opportunity to discuss and understanding your camera controls. The following three full days we will be out on location around Skye putting these principles into practise.
1-2-1 and group help and advice will be given at each location to ensure each participant gets the most from the location and from their equipment. Each evening we will download the days’ images from your camera and run a critique session. We will then select a number to process and go through some basic post capture processing techniques using Adobe Lightroom/Photoshop and Google Nik Collection.
During the winter on Skye the days are quite short, however this means sunrise and sunset are at more sociable hour. The objective of the workshop is to have a flexible structure depending on the group’s requirement but ideally we would be out for sunrise/sunset as this provides the best light for landscape photography.
You will have a better understanding of your camera controls, what settings to use, to achieve the best image out in the field.
You will have a better understand of composition.
You will understand when and how to use filters to control the light and to ensure you have a well-balanced exposed photograph.
You will also have a basic knowledge of post processing techniques which will enable you to make final adjustments/enhancements to your image using Adobe Lightroom/Photoshop and Google Nik Collection.
And hopefully take home some stunning photographs of the Isle of Skye
